Momoa and High Fidelity actor Bonet began a relationship back in 2005. They were married in secret in October 2017.

The high-profile pair publicly announced that they were separating around two years ago. At the time, a joint social media post from Bonet and Momoa explained:

“A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,”

“And so we share our family news that we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.”

“The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become,”

However, on the recent divorce papers, the date of the breakup was given as 7th October 2020. This is nearly 18 months before the official announcement, suggesting they had split up earlier but wanted to maintain their privacy.

In an appearance at a Los Angeles court on 8th January 2024, Bonet explained that the two had come to an agreement on the division of assets and their marital rights. According to the paperwork:

“The parties have a written agreement that will be submitted to the court, or a stipulation for judgment will be submitted to the court,”

Bonet also requested joint physical custody of the two children she shares with Momoa – Lola and Nakoa-Wolf, who are 16 and 15 years old respectively. When announcing their separation in January 2022, the couple made it clear that their priority in the future would be co-parenting their children together.

Bonet was previously married to musician Lenny Kravitz, and their daughter is The Batman and Mad Max: Fury Road star Zoe Kravitz. Momoa was previously engaged to his Baywatch co-star Simmone Jade Mackinnon.

The divorce has officially been recorded as ‘uncontested’. This means that both parties accept the terms of the separation and the division of assets, and neither plans to mount a legal challenge in court.
