All of this tends to result in a significant increase in online searches for ‘how to get a divorce’.
In one UK city though, the number of web searches related to divorce is higher than anywhere else in the country. A study has found that the residents of Norwich were top of the list of UK towns and cities where divorce searches were highest in 2025.
Research from law firm Weightmans looked at search trends for a number of divorce-related queries, including ‘how to get a divorce in the UK’, ‘divorce lawyers’ and ‘divorce’. They found that nationwide, the number of people using this search term has leapt up by around 70% - totalling more than 3,000 searches a month across the country.
But some destinations had a higher concentration of divorce searches than others, in relation to population size.
In Norwich, there were 69 searches per 100,000 people. Taking second place was Dundee (61 searches) and Huddersfield (56 searches).
This is also the third year in a row that Norwich has been named as the ‘heartbreak city’, with the either the highest number of divorce searches or people actually getting divorced.
In 2024, it was revealed that the city had 63 searches per 100,000 residents, so slightly fewer than the subsequent year. In the same year, divorce searches increased by a whopping 45% in January across the whole of the UK.
But back in 2023, Norwich was named by a Yahoo! News report as also having the highest number of divorces compared to anywhere in the UK – with the total coming in at a surprisingly high 12.5%.
Where is the ‘most happily married’ place in the UK?
In both 2024 and 2025’s study of divorce-related searches by Weightmans, the city with the least number of searches was Manchester.
It’s been dubbed the ‘happily ever after city’, with just 9 searches in 2024 and 11 in 2025.
Also on the list of cities where the fewest people want to get divorced was Nottingham (15 searches per 100,000 people) and Durham (17 searches).
