It has been three years since the award-winning singer filed to end his second marriage. The couple were married in 2001 and separated in 2009. They have two sons together, aged 14 and 10.

Under the agreed settlement, the 65-year-old singer will pay $25,000 a month in child support for their two children. It has also been agreed that the former couple will share joint custody of the children.

Fashion designer Kai Millard Morris was Stevie Wonder’s second wife. Wonder split from his first wife, Motown singer Myreeta Wright, in 1972.

In December 2014 Stevie Wonder’s current partner, Tomeeka Robyn Bracy gave birth to the couple’s daughter Nia, the singer’s ninth child.

Stevie Wonder’s divorce settlement finalisation, of which he has agreed to pay $25,000 a month, in child support is the latest of the line of celebrity divorce settlement cases in which a parent has been required to pay a hefty amount in child support.

For example, in 2012 supermodel Linda Evangelista and the father of their then five-year-old son finally settled a bitter child support battle. It was reported that Francois-Henri Pinault, who is the heir to an $11.5 billion family estate, was to pay $46,000 a month in child support.

Pinault and Evangelista had a brief fling in 2005. The Canadian supermodel claims the relationship ended when she told Pinault she was expecting their child.

The five figure monthly child support, which allegedly pays for expenses such a 24-hour nannies and private drivers, sparked criticism, with censors deeming the amount as “excessive” and representative of Ms Evangelista’s extravagant lifestyle.

Charlie Sheen is another high-profile figure who has to fork out substantial child maintenance expenses. Sheen has two lots of hefty child support payments to make each month, $55,000 to his ex-wife Denise Richards for their two daughters and another $55,000 to his former wife Brooke Mueller for their twin boys.

Though it’s not just the male partners of high-profile divorce settlements who are bearing the brunt of their fortunes and having to pay eye-watering amounts in child maintenance.

Britney Spears pays $20,000 a month to her ex-husband Kevin Federline for their two sons. It was also reported that Spears forked out $250,000 in legal fees for Federline when they were arguing the financial settlement in court. Following Spears’ public breakdown in 2008, the singer was forced to pay an additional $5,000 a month as Federline took sole custody of their children.

What are your thoughts on celebrities having to shell out excessive amounts in child maintenance to support the lifestyles of their ex-partners and children? Justified and reasonable or unfair and excessive?
